Frederick LogoServe Your Community! Become a Fire and Rescue Volunteer!! The volunteer fire and rescue service of Frederick County is the second oldest fire service in Maryland beginning in 1764 in Frederick. For two and one half centuries volunteers have provided fire and rescue service to the citizens of Frederick County. Each year, fire and rescue departments in Frederick County respond to alarms, provide countless hours of fundraising, provide public fire safety education, and doing administrative work to support company operations. There are twenty-six volunteer fire and rescue departments which are independent non-profit corporations (and associated special operations teams) and are actively seeking volunteer members to assist with operational and administrative duties. Times have changed. Fewer people live and work in the same community and the availability of volunteers willing to commit time to the fire service is declining nationally. Fire and Rescue volunteers are involved in department administration and fire prevention activities as well as facility and equipment maintenance. Firefighting, rescue and EMS training is provided to current members. The fire and rescue service is one, which many people would take for, granted until they need emergency assistance.   The dedicated men and women who provide this service stand ready, willing, and able to respond.   While many of us hope we never need to call upon the fire and rescue service, we should take a moment and appreciate their efforts and dedication.
